Early Bird or Night Owl

Spread the love

Are you an early bird or a night owl?

Have you heard that saying, “The early bird gets the worm?” What does this saying mean? And if it’s true, what does that leave for night owls? The early bird can have the worm: the night owl wants the moth.

What this saying means is that if you want to achieve your goals, if you want to grab hold of opportunity, then–you’ve got to be an early riser.

But not all of us are hardwired to want that. And–is it even true for everyone, that if you get up early, you can make your dreams come true?

And what about night owls? They tend to be hard at work while everyone else is sleeping. This can be a real advantage in focusing. There are fewer distractions at night, I find–

The early bird can have that worm…

I mean… worms. Who wants worms except for possibly fishermen and fish? I guess gardeners want them too. And hey, that’s great if you’re into earthworms. I garden, there’s a place a for ’em, they’re really good for the soil…

But, wake me up between 4 and 6 a.m. most days, even on those days when I’ve slept well at night (my sleep cycles are unfortunately a bit irregular) and I’m going to be a bleary-eyed mess. Seizing golden opportunities is just not happening at that hour for me.

What the night owl really wants…

Oh-yeah–confession time: I tend to be more of a night owl than an early bird. My best creative ideas often strike between 6 and 10 p.m. Creativity leads to focus and productivity.

Which is why, when my aunt made a quip about night owls wanting moths, not worms, I got all inspired. Of course we don’t!

But–as a night owl, I’m far more excited about moths. Come to that, so are my cats!  Who doesn’t like a pretty moth? They’re soft and feathery, and they flutter about like great ideas. If you’re patient and you sneak up on them just so, moths are really easy to catch, too. And then…you pounce, and that moth is yours, just like a great creative idea.

Anyway, I was so inspired by this notion that I had to create a coloring page for it–and you can download it here.
